If you were at SuiteConnect London in April 2026, you heard Evan Goldberg say it from the main stage: "Nothing exemplifies agility more than the ability to connect the AI tool you choose directly to NetSuite."

He wasn't exaggerating. What Oracle NetSuite launched — and what's now live for NetSuite customers — is one of the most practically significant ERP-AI integrations announced this year. And for anyone working in NSPB, it raises an obvious question: when does the planning layer get the same treatment?

Here's what's happening, what it actually means, and where NSPB fits into the picture.


What NetSuite Just Did

NetSuite launched its AI Connector Service — a native integration that lets you connect external AI assistants like Claude and ChatGPT directly to your NetSuite environment using the Model Context Protocol (MCP).

MCP is an open standard — think of it as a USB port for AI. Instead of every AI model needing a custom-built connector for every enterprise application, MCP provides a standardized bridge: the application (NetSuite) acts as the server exposing its data and tools, and the AI assistant (Claude, ChatGPT) acts as the client that can query data, run actions, and get responses in natural language.

This is a meaningful shift. It's not just "ask the AI a question about your data." It's the AI becoming an interface into NetSuite itself — navigating screens, running reports, and taking actions on your behalf, governed by your existing permissions.


Now the NSPB Question

Here's where it gets interesting for the planning world.

NSPB is NetSuite's planning module — it sits adjacent to the NetSuite ERP but runs on Oracle's EPM Cloud engine underneath. The MCP connector described above connects to the NetSuite ERP layer: GL data, saved searches, records, reports. It does not connect into NSPB's planning model — the Essbase cubes, the business rules, the forms, the forecasts.

So right now, a connected Claude can answer "what were our Q1 actuals?" from NetSuite's GL. It cannot answer "why does our Q1 forecast differ from actuals in the NSPB Financials plan type" or "run the CopyToPlan rule in the Workforce cube." That lives in EPM Cloud, not NetSuite ERP.


EPM Cloud and MCP: Where Things Stand

This is where something genuinely interesting is already happening — not from Oracle officially, but from the community.

The EPM Cloud REST API is well-documented and fully capable of supporting MCP-style integrations. Members of the Oracle EPM community have already built open-source MCP servers that connect Claude and other AI assistants directly to Oracle EPM Cloud — exposing capabilities like running business rules, reading and updating substitution variables, exporting data slices, and polling job status as tools the AI can call directly.

These are not official Oracle products. They are community-built bridges. But they work — against the same EPM Cloud REST API layer that NSPB runs on. For PBCS and EPBCS environments, this kind of integration is live and usable today for organizations and consultants willing to set it up.

For NSPB specifically, the EPM Cloud REST API exposes the same API endpoints as PBCS for operations like running business rules, managing substitution variables, and executing data exports. A community MCP server connecting Claude to NSPB's EPM layer is technically feasible right now — and the groundwork has already been laid by the broader EPM community.


When Will Oracle Make This Official for EPM/NSPB?

Oracle hasn't announced an official EPM Cloud MCP connector equivalent to the NetSuite one. But the direction is unmistakable, and the timeline can be reasoned through:

Near-term (2026–2027): Oracle's EPM AI Agent Studio approach (launched April 2026) is the enterprise-tier version of this — AI agents that interact with EPM via REST APIs. The limitation is that it requires Oracle Fusion Applications, which NSPB customers don't have. However, Oracle's stated strategy is to make AI interaction with EPM broadly accessible, and the NetSuite MCP launch demonstrates they're willing to move quickly when the architecture is right.

Medium-term (2027–2028): The most likely path is Oracle extending the MCP Connector Service to EPM Cloud directly — similar to what they've done for NetSuite ERP, but exposing EPM-specific tools: running business rules, reading plan data, managing metadata, executing data loads. The EPM REST API already supports all of these operations. The MCP wrapper is the missing piece, and Oracle has now proven the pattern with NetSuite.

The honest timeline: Oracle moves on a quarterly release cycle for EPM updates. If an official EPM MCP connector is on the roadmap, it could ship within two to four quarterly updates once prioritized. The community has already demonstrated the technical path is clear. What's missing is Oracle's official productization — and given the pace of the NetSuite MCP development, that gap could close faster than expected.


What This Means for NSPB Consultants and Clients Right Now

Three things worth taking from this:

The NetSuite MCP connector is live and worth enabling. If you're an NSPB consultant or client, your NetSuite environment can be connected to Claude today at no extra cost. The ERP data layer — GL balances, saved searches, vendor records, transaction data — becomes queryable in natural language. That's useful context even if the NSPB planning layer isn't connected yet.

The EPM community MCP work is worth watching. Community-built EPM MCP connectors are the earliest version of what an official Oracle EPM MCP integration will eventually look like. Consultants who understand the underlying approach — EPM REST API authentication, tool exposure, permission scoping — will be ahead of the curve when Oracle formalizes it.

The convergence is coming. The question of "can I ask Claude about my NSPB budget?" is going to have a much cleaner answer in 12–24 months than it does today. The AI assistant that can query NetSuite actuals and NSPB plan data in the same conversation — no export, no manual reconciliation — is the logical endpoint of where Oracle is clearly heading. Preparing your NSPB model to be AI-queryable (clean data, meaningful member names, well-structured hierarchies) is the groundwork worth doing now.

The future of NSPB interaction isn't just web forms and Smart View. It's a conversation.
